The “20 Things You Might Not Know About Me” Blog Tag

This blog post is a part of the ’20 Things You Might Not Know About Me’ Blog Tag started by April from Blacksburg Belle. She began this blog tag experiment to build community among creatives, help us bloggers to connect more and get to know each other better. This month’s topic is all about sharing just a little too much information about yourself. If you’d like to participate or want more info, check out the beginning post right here.

About a month ago (almost exactly), April posted about this challenge….she challenged some individuals, but she also invited her readership to tag themselves into it. So I already knew I wanted to join in, and then my friend Rebecca Nash (who’s about to get married…wish her her well!!!)  tagged me into it herself. Yay!

So why am I so late? Totally fair question…I’ve been on hiatus…I needed some space this summer to prep for our baby (who’ll arrive in January), prepare for back-to-school (when Mom’s the teacher, there’s a lot more prep work), and to plot & plan some new products/services/courses to bring out in the near future. Meanwhile, I bought a new domain (don’t worry…if you have anything bookmarked at, it’ll redirect here), gave my site a new facelift (what do you think about the front page?), and now I’m back!

By the way, happy Talk Like a Pirate Day!

So here goes!

Question 1: How tall are you?

I’m 5 foot, 1 and 3/4 inches. When you’re this short, that 3/4 is very important. 😉

Question 2: Do you have a hidden talent? If so, what?

I remember things. Before you shrug & think “whatever” (don’t think I didn’t see that!), it’s more than that. I’m notorious for remembering things about people…conversations/items they bought/email addresses/whatever, that they’ve already forgotten about. I try to restrain it so I don’t seem like a creeper, but that does pop up from time to time. I attribute this to reading Encyclopedia Brown’s as a kid, and Agatha Christie’s when I got older. Gotta pay attention to those little details! 😀

Question 3: What’s your biggest blog-related pet peeve?

Thieves. It really bothers me when I run across someone who’s clearly hijacked someone else’s work, and then they add 1 original thought, and pretend they came up with the whole thing. I’ve also personally seen this happen to friends of mine…entire business concepts, product lines, and branding styles have been completely stolen. Not cool!

Question 4: What’s your biggest non-blog related pet peeve?

People who throw their cigarettes around all over the place. I mean…it’s bad enough that they can’t make it from the car to the store without sucking on a poison stick, but then they will throw their cigarette a foot away from the ashtray that’s been placed out there for their convenience. :/ It’s gross, and it’s tacky.

Question 5: What’s your favorite song?

Oh gosh. Asking a singer what their favorite song is, is like asking a parent to pick a favorite child. I’ll say AT THE MOMENT, I’m still completely obsessed with Mika/Ariana Grande’s “Popular”.

Question 6: What’s your favorite Etsy shop that isn’t yours?

Well…it’s my blog, so I’m going to cheat a little…I have several online/offline friends with Etsy shops (shout out to Tasha, Mayi, Maggie, Rebecca, and Tracy)

But I’m also extremely fond of The Velvet Acorn (who makes some of my favorite patterns that I’ve crocheted), and Artifacts ‘n’ Relics who creates steampunk jewelry!

My silly son modeling a fox cowl I crocheted, using a Velvet Acorn pattern.

Question 7: What’s your favorite way to spend your free time when you’re alone?

Reading YA fiction (eagerly awaiting Fairest at the moment!), bingewatching shows on Netflix, or taking classes to up my creative game (like this one on Skillshare, and this one on CreativeBug!)

Question 8: What’s your favorite junk food?

Chips & homemade salsa! If we’re going for out & out junk, I’m really fond of tater tots or potato chips. 😀

Question 9: Do you have a pet or pets? If so, what kind and what are their names?

I used to have a hamster, named Chewbacca, but he died *sad face*. Worse than that, he died while I was out of town, cause the neighbors forgot to check on him & feed him. So my mother-in-law drove from South Carolina to Georgia, so she could properly handle his body, so my kids wouldn’t find out. That’s a good mother-in-law.

Question 10: What are your number one favorite nonfiction and fiction books?

Oh gosh…that’s hard…okay outside of the Bible, the dictionary, and the Guinness Book of World Records….

Non Fiction – It really changes periodically, dependent on what I’ve just read, or I’m still soaking up…right now I’m re-reading Writer Mama & I’m reading for the first time the War of Art.

Fiction – I’ve got a wide variety of books I read, have read, and love. But I always come back to Gone With the Wind. And the Chronicles of Narnia. Okay, I’ll stop, lol.

Question 11: What’s your favorite beauty product?

Mascara. I’ve got very sparse eyelashes, so just the simple act of putting on mascara makes a huge difference on my face.

I don’t know if it counts, but I’m also a big fan of jojoba oil…I use it for soothing stretch marks, cleaning my face, stretching my ears, cuticle oil…

Question 12: When were you last embarrassed? What happened?

Wow. I really don’t embarrass easily…wait…okay there was one time. Sooo my sister’s boyfriend was staying with us, and he & my husband were going job hunting. While he was staying with us, he & my husband discovered that they both wore the same size clothes, so they were swapping around dress shirts back and forth for job interviews…and they already wore the same exact style jeans. After this had gone on for a couple weeks, he went with us to church, and he quickly vanished off to go find my sister. While he was looking for her, I chatted with my Mom for a few minutes, and then went to go drop the baby off at the nursery. When I got there, my husband was waiting for me, and he was leaning over the half-wall that allows parents to see the kiddos without the kiddos getting out. So I snuck up behind him, popped him on the butt & said “Hey babe!” and he turned around in surprise….cause it was my sister’s boyfriend…not my husband. Whoops. No Zach, it’s not THAT kind of family, I promise!

Question 13: If you could only drink one beverage (besides water) for the rest of your life, what would it be?

Sweet tea, with lemon or lime…or frozen peaches! Hmmmm peach sweet tea….Southern love right there…;)

Question 14: What’s your favorite movie?

Depends on my mood. I adore The Princess Bride, and I’m unreasonably fond of Man of the House…Tommy Lee Jones cracks me up in that…this is muh happy faaaace…hehehe.

Question 15: What were you in high school: prom queen, nerd, cheerleader, jock, valedictorian, band geek, loner, artist, prep?

I was homeschooled, so of course that means I was the valedictorian, hehehe. Seriously though, I’d probably have been an artist/band geek combo. And I don’t know about valedictorian, but I’d have sure tried for it anyway…

Question 16: If you could live anywhere in the world, where would you live?

Y’know…my husband & I chat about this from time to time. After we got out of the military, we moved back to my home region in Texas. But we’ve talked about maybe moving to Virginia or North Carolina someday…autumn is my all time favorite season, but we just don’t get pretty autumns here…plus I feel like it’s the best of both worlds over get snow, but not too much snow…pretty autumns, and you’re near BOTH the beach AND the mountains.

Question 17: PC or Mac?

I have a PC at the moment, but I want a Mac!!!

Question 18: Last romantic gesture from a crush, date, boy/girlfriend, spouse?

My husband knew I had work to do the other day, and I had been wrangling kiddos so he could get some sleep, so he woke up a little bit early, brought me an Oreo frappuccino, and took over the kiddos so I could work. Coffee & quiet..what more could an entrepreneur want? 🙂

Question 19: Favorite celebrity?

I don’t get into the whole celeb-worship thing, but there’s several with lovely voices (I’m looking at you Benedict), and this morning I half-crushed on Prince Harry, because I read a sweet story about him hoisting a 5 year old little girl up onto his shoulders, when he saw her crying during a concert because she couldn’t see!

Question 20: What blogger do you secretly want be best friends with?

Oh sheesh you do like the hard questions…okay…uhhhhh let’s see….
Laura George…we’ve never met, but we’ve had some awesome chats, and she rocks my socks off!

Tara Gentile, who totally won my nerd fan-girl-ness when she confessed to having read Imzadi when she was younger.

Rebecca Nash….her photography is gorgeous, and she’s super fun to talk to…we’ve chatted during several CreativeLive events too, lol.

April Bowles-Olin…constantly inspiring me…period.

Mayi Carles…I can be super type-A, especially when I’m stressed, so I love going and reading her blog to let her playful attitude rub off on me some more. And her drawings are always adorable!

Tsh Oxenreider…wow. This woman is traveling the country right now, with her entire family, and they’re home schooling on the go. What an adventure!

Okay! I hope you enjoyed all of that, and you’re feeling like you know me a little better. 😀 Since I’m woefully late, I won’t tag anyone into this, but if you’d like to tag yourself into this, please leave a comment with a link to your post! 🙂

  1. I loved reading this:) I could read these kind of post/blogs forever. I enjoy getting to know people.
My husband is a smoker so I felt ashamed on 4
I have a horrible memory I don’t admit it but I do so your number 2 is neat
    And I was a cheerleader/mean girl…people change lol

    • lol!!! I love them too Shanda!!! Please don’t feel ashamed…I wasn’t bagging on smokers in general (my grandmother either is or was very for a very long time)…just that particular behavior! 🙂

Hahahaha I’m not surprised you were a cheerleader…they love short girls in cheerleading. 🙂

  2. I should really try doing a post like this. Actually, this week I was looking at the ones I filled out on Facebook when I first joined 6 years ago and wondering if some of the topics listed would make for a great post. Love this idea. Visiting from SITS Sharefest!

    • Oh my gosh!!! I completely forgot about the SITS Sharefest, because I put my link in this morning, and then chaos erupted amongst my children & I missed the entire twitter chat, lol. I’m so glad you dropped by, and now I need to go return the favor & make the rounds! 🙂

And that is so, so funny….I was just poking about my “Notes” section in Facebook the other day, and remembering how people used to do those all the time…and before that they did them on MySpace! What a great idea, to go poking about for topic ideas! 🙂

  3. Wow Amanda! I loved reading this and learning a bit more about you.
And thank you for all the shoutouts, super sweet of you!

I hope we get a chance to chat more soon but the next two weeks is likely to be insane as we count down to the wedding but then we may have to plan a skype coffee date once the munchkins are all in bed.

  4. What an awesome way for me to get to “know” you!

I had to laugh because whenever I’m asked how tall I am, I always say 5’2″ and 3/4 because it’s soooooo close to 5’3″! You’re right… every little bit counts.

I love hearing adults talk about being homeschooled… it’s fascinating to me. I am homeschooling my children and always wonder how they will look back on/reflect on their homeschooling experiences.

I can’t stand it when I’m driving and I see someone toss their lit cigarette out the window. I have this crazy urge to stop the car, pick it up, drive up to them, and throw it back in their window.

Thanks for sharing… this was a fun read!

    • Jennifer hi!!!

I’m glad I’m not the only short person who does that, hehehehe.

Yep, I’m actually homeschooling my kids, and I thought it would be easy, having watched my Mom. Instead I found out just how much work goes into it, lol!!

Hahaha yes! That drives me crazy too…so gross & disrespectful too.
